Last Week Tot Time

So It appears that I did not  update on last weeks Tot Time

Our Theme was BLUE.

Our sensory tub was filled with white beans and all things Red.  Hahaha – I had bought a bunch of valentines stuff and used it, not thinking that our theme was Blue.  Oh well.  She loved it.

We put all things blue into a blue bucket and let her explore everything in it.  (We also did this for green and plan on doing it for all of the colors we do).  In the Blue bucket I placed cups, spoons, balls, bouncy balls, porcupine balls, sparkly pipe cleaner, pom poms, Easter egg, cookie cutter and a blue water/oil bottle with blue sequence in it.  (In this weeks green bucket I have very similar items including a green water/oil bottle)

She has taken a love to all things small and round – like the blue bouncy ball and the pom poms.  She also loves to carry around the spoons and forks from the color buckets.

During our Blue Week R. finger painted with blue paint

She placed tooth picks into a washed mined onion container.

She marble painted a horse blue.  We are reading Brown Bear Brown Bear and recreating the story as we go through the weeks of colors.  She will paint/color/craft each animal from the book.

We also painted over the sticker back with blue paint to make a pretty picture.  No pictures from that activity.  R. attempted to string blue noodles onto a pipe cleaner but this proved to be a little difficult. She did however enjoy handing the noodles to her dad!  Again, No Pictures

R. did various life skills this week also such as taking baths and brushing her teeth.  Here are a couple of the pictures from that.

R. taking a bath. – Look at that long hair.  It amazes me that her hair is that long.  It only is that long while it’s wet.

And no, I am not a totally mean mom and only let my daughter play with exactly NO toys, but we always wash her face/hair/and then body first because if we don’t she is a pain to get those things washed with toys in her hands.

Brushing her teeth.  She loves to do this!

So that was the week last week.  She also colored and painted with her color wonder markers/paints and of course we did various puzzles.  I always forget to mention the everyday activities like puzzles, blocks, etc.  I tend to focus alot on the crafts that we do.  Oh well.

Tot Time FUN Overview

Here is a recap of this week during our Tot Time.

Our theme for the week was the Color Green

We filled the sensory tub with oatmeal and all things green.  It took about 1.5 big containers of oatmeal to get it where I wanted it to be.  I added green porcupine balls, green spoon, fork, bowl and cup, green dinosaurs and finally the scoops and tongs.

The oatmeal really helped R. work on her scooping skills.  She was scooping oatmeal today with the little spoon.  Up until now she has always just dipped the spoon in whatever she was using the spoon for.  Today she actually scooped a large amount of oatmeal on it.

We will be leaving the Oatmeal in the tub for another week I think.

While I was getting lunch ready one day I sprayed a little Green Silly String on to the table and let her explore it.  It was a little strong smelling so I only left it out for a couple minutes, but she was definitely liking it!

We also painted a white paper bag green to be made into a frog puppet.  I don’t have any pictures of the finished product or the link where I got the idea from but I believe it was on DLTK’s website under reptile paper crafts.

I bought these wonderful paint cups from Discount School Supplies for R. for Christmas.  They really work wonders.  She can dip the brush into the cup herself and fully understands what she is doing.  The brushes are also from Discount School Supplies.

We also colored the arms, eyes and tongue of the frog puppet with green crayons, and we worked on using a glue stick for the first time to glue the pieces onto the puppet.

Other activities we did this week were

  • Placing Green Wood Sticks into a Sugar Shaker
  • Changing shaving cream from White to Green in a plastic bag
  • Dot Painting a frog and snake – For these we used actual magnet pages or bingo dot pages.  I found them on DLTK’s website also.
  • Played with Green Play-doh
  • Colored a frog paper craft green

And Today she will be working on making a turtle from a small paper bowl (like paper plates but a bowl – it just sounds funny to type paper bowl), tissue paper and the glue stick.

It was a very busy week.  And not very many pictures :(

We are very excited for the weekend.  Happy Friday Everyone

Back to the Grind!

We had quite the weekend here in our house. Last Wednesday, dear hubby found a great deal on a TV wall mount. $33.00. He ordered it immediately and then came time to find out where to hang the TV. We decided to fill in the "hole" in the wall and hang the TV there. When we moved into this house, it had been remodeled fairly recently (well within the last 1o years). The living room and kitchen used to be completely seperated making for a very small kitchen and small, narrow living room. When they remodeled they took out the dividing wall. They also chose to cut a hole/window into the wall that is between the living room and the stairway. It's purpose was to open up the room a little more and bring in a little more light. To me it was a ledge used to collect junk and I didn't like it. It limited our wall space to 1 wall and was just useless space. So dear hubby chose to fill it in.

All it required was a few 2x4 studs, 2 sheets of sheet rock, tape, mud, and texture.....oh yea, then there is the paint. We decided that since we had to paint that wall, which goes all the way into the kitchen and behind the refridgerator, that we would just paint the entire living room/kitchen.

I took R. to the A's family for the day and then made my stop at the hardware store for some paint. What color did I choose? RED! A while back we painted the main wall of the livingroom a darker brown color. I really had wanted to paint that wall red, but dear hubby refused. Well I finally got my way. I bought a gallon of "Red Head" paint (that is the name of the color). The other walls we painted the same brown color that we had on hand. I LOVE it. The TV mount is suppose to arrive today and we will hang that along with hanging all of the other decor. I am so excited. I think it looks very nice.

And the entire time we were working, R. was off playing with the A's. She loves them and had a wonderful, nap-less day. She was tuckered out and fell asleep during treatments, woke up to eat, and then was back to sleep an hour later. She had a blast though.

And yesterday, we did housework, laundry, dishes, laundry and more laundry. I still have 2 or 3 loads to do. Sad I know. I also worked on R.'s activities for the week, prepared everything and put all new toys out for the first couple of days. Our theme this week is Green.

I was very impressed as I had bought her a stack of flashcards at WalMart that had colors, shapes, numbers and a few other things on them. Well I layed out the blue and green flash card and asked her to hand me the blue one. We talked about blue last week. She picked up the blue one and handed it to me. I put it back down and asked for the green card and she gave me that. I then switched them around and asked again for each card and she immediately handed me the correct card. I was so impressed with how much she has picked up lately. She is "ONE SMART COOKIE" in my opinion....Not biased at all! hahaha.

Well off to do some projects with the little one. Pictures of the living room will come later. Have a great Monday!
